Radishes + Butter: The Parisian Pairing You Never Knew You Were Obsessed With, But Now You Are.

Radishes + Butter is the combo you never knew you were obsessed with, but now you are.   

I was first turned on to this Parisian pairing many years ago.  Ooo La La.  And whenever I find beautiful radishes, I get a craving.   There is just something so deliciously indulgent about the crisp peppery bite of the radish with the creamy fattiness of the butter.  

Last week, I found these gorgeous breakfast radishes and freshly baked artisan ancient grain loaf at my local farmer's market and thought it was the perfect combo for a little afternoon snack.  I did work up an appetite shopping at the market, after all.  

Now, you can use any high-quality butter for this, but I just started making my own butter at home, so I used that and decided to add some fresh herbs from the garden (also optional).  My Basic Herb Butter Recipe is below.

Preparing your radishes + butter feast is a pretty self-explanatory process:  

  1. Slice bread (although radish and butter is also delicious on crackers)

  2. Slice radishes

  3. Get your butter ready (room temp is best)

  4. Slather butter on bread (or crackers), top with radish slices and a sprinkle of sea salt

  5. Now the best part... Enjoy!

Basic Herb Butter Recipe
1 stick softened unsalted butter 
1 tbsp chopped parsley 
1 tbsp chopped chives 
salt and pepper to taste

Combine ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Feel free to use any combination of herbs that you like.
You can also add lemon zest, chili flakes, etc. Get creative!
